Manchester University Student Led Award - WINNERS!

Congratulations to Dr Saleem and our Practice Manager, Debbie Longan, who have won the 2024-2025 University of Manchester Medicine Student Led Teaching Awards! Dr Saleem won his award in the category of Best Community Teacher and Debbie's award was for Best Non-teaching Staff Member having been nominated by the students they have taught or supported at our practice.

Each year the MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) Student Programme Reps organise the Student Led Teaching Awards. They ask medical students at the University of Manchester to nominate members of staff who they feel should be acknowledged for their excellence in teaching or who have gone above and beyond in their help and support of medical students.

The nominations are then judged by a team of student reps. This year there were 47 nominations; we understand they all were of a very high standard, and it is evident that Dr Saleem & Debbie's nominations reflected lasting impressions on the medical students who enjoyed their placement at Castletown Medical Centre.

Dr Saleem & Debbie will collect their awards later this year at the Medical School's Celebration of Achievement Evening in Manchester.

Dr Saleem says 'I am honoured to win this award and I am so grateful for the hard working team at Castletown Medical Centre who support me teaching the medical students.  Teaching is a passion of mine and to win an award for doing something that I love is humbling. I would also like to thank our fantastic patients who accomodated the medical students so well. You have given the students an unforgettable experience and I really appreciate your kindness.'

Debbie says 'I am humbled but absolutely thrilled to win the award for Best Non-teaching Staff Member. This award is a testament to the great work we do as a team here at Castletown Medical Centre. We strive to continue to provide the ongoing high-quality teaching and support for our medical students; particularly with the pressures we are facing in General Practice.

Thank you to the Manchester Medical Students for their kind nominations and we look forward to meeting and working with our next medical students in the autumn.'

Congratulations again Dr Saleem & Debbie, we are very proud of you!
